barefootj rated 12 months ago- It doesn't just fall onto irresponsible dog owners who don't spay/neuter. The more dogs that are bred (professional breeders and puppy mill dogs) the more dogs in shelters die. People far too often get their pets from breeders and pet stores. It's just perpetuating the awful cycle. By all means, if you want a specific breed, look into breed rescue. But if you're getting your puppy from a breeder or a pet store, that's one more puppy put to death in a shelter.

- Too few people recognize the value of a dog bred to do a specific task. If purebred dog breeders (responsible ones) didn't exist, these beautiful, intelligent breeds would slowly melt into the "mutt" population and lose their instinct. Kudos to those producing purbred dogs to improve the breed!

- So many people ridicule purebred dog fanciers or attack them for not adopting unwanted dogs. This is rather unfair, since dog breeders aren't responsible for the 'shelter dog' population. That distinction belongs to casual pet owners who are too irresponsible to spay or neuter their pets.

- The AKC is a great organization for those interested in purebred dogs. Some people prefer purebreeds, some people prefer "mutts", some people prefer strays, but anyone can use training/diet/lifestyle information for owning a dog. For the narrow-minded person that compared the AKC to the Nazi's, maybe you should actually find out what the Nazi's did and realize that just not agreeing with you does not compare to the mass slaughter performed by the Nazi's (and other groups throughout the history of the world). Elitist dog owners are nowhere even close to being "comparable to the nazi's".

- :o( It's amazing that you're still allowed to breed dogs just for being 'purebred', and there's still so many homeless in the streets. :0(
