I don't think it has anything to do about this person's race. Myself being asian, I'm kind of thankful that this WON'T be on every major news outlet in the US. After (that bastage) Cho, everyone's kind of getting a bad impressions of the Asian Americans. This kid obviously didn't get the idea.

Our Society stops being racist when we stop pointing out races.

I've also read another article that said he had 5 swords in his room. WOW a Chinese kid with swords and ninja equipment WOW. Hell, I have even made levels for half-life that were portions of my school. What a joke this all has become.

...wow. I keep seeing more and more of these ridiculus, er, "incidents". I mean, I have an airsoft gun, a slingshot, a paintball gun, a hammer, a wrench, a screwdriver, some weights, and a computer in my room. I could go to war with all this equipment.

Student Arrested for Suspected Terrorist activities From the page: "A Chinese student has been arrested in Texas, charged with "Suspected Terrorist Activity". This student was apprehended after parents discovered that he had used plans of his High School in the creation of a map for an online first person shooter." Hell, when designing a game using a games engine like Oblivion, Unreal or Halflife, it's just easier to have something in the tangible world to base design around, that's just the way it is with game modding! The labeling of this guy as a terrorist is ridiculous. How is the fact that he has a hammer in his room of any relevance? Maybe he was just doing some DIY.

Thoughtcrime.. send him into the deepest dungeon / room 101 to let him think about the hideous things he could do with an FPS map and a hammer!

Oh my. I have a hammer next to my bed. Am I a terrorist? Oh wait, Sweden!=US. So I guess I'm safe ;)

Anybody who owns a personal computer could, with the right knowledge, commit acts of "terrorism", but with a hammer? This is getting (even more) ridiculous. This is a prime example of how Homeland Insecurity is trying to prosecute people for Thoughtcrime. This only happened because (a) The kid is not white, and (b) that Virginia Tech kid was wielding a hammer in one of his "multimedia manifesto" pictures. But mostly (a).

This blogger makes good -- and obvious -- points......that is, until the last two sentences, where he exhibits the naïvete of a child trying, in an argument with his parents, a last bout of illogic before the tantrum...From the page: "Even with the authorities finding no evidence of gaming-related causes for the Virginia Tech shootings... It seems that we, as gamers, still are targeted as warped killers."PLEASE. The kid didn't use the blueprints of his school to create a map for The Sims, man. He used it to create a map for a first...person...SHOOTER.What's that word again? Oh yes, shooter. Join me on a quiz which explores what "shot" means:A) It's a loose metaphor; this game is all about giving inoculationsB) The projectile travels at low speed, resembles a butterfly, and on contact causes feelings of mild euphoriaC) The projectile travels at thousands of feet per second, is comprised of the very dense metal Lead (Pb), and upon impact shatters skulls, shreds brains, and severs spinesYou have 15 seconds...What better way to practice finding closets in which to hide when reloading when one does go on one's murderous rampage at one's school? What better way to plant the idea in others -- who possibly don't have the acumen for level design but who nonetheless both love FPSes and go to the same school -- to discover the best way to run through that school and accomplish the most amount of kills in the least amount of time?Is this conjecture? Absolutely. But the same people who criticize this action tend to be precisely the same kind of people who look at the Virginia Tech shootings, or Columbine, and wail loudly "Why wasn't something done?!@" The answer is found in their attitudes every time the authorities try what little they can to prevent another school massacre from occurring, and in the attitude they'd display were the story *exactly* the same, save that the kid HAD shot up the school:"It's obvious he was planning something -- he made a map of his school for a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER for crying out loud! He was probably practicing which rooms to target first, which niches to hide in while reloading, EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL! WHY WASN'T SOMETHING DONE?!@?""
