    Being able to perform arithmetic quickly and mentally can greatly boost your self-esteem, especially if you don't consider yourself to be very good at Math. And, getting comfortable with arithmetic might just motivate you to dive deeper into other things mathematical.

    No idea why, I get a feeling it'll be pretty faster sticking to multiplying the way I've been doing all the way along than learning that... The methods are pretty logical, indeed. Discovering them yourself while multiplying won't be a problem, after all - and come on, they've allowed calculators on the higschool exams here...
