Petitio principii - Iron Chariots Wiki

I do not dismiss all arguments which imply their first principles. No one has proven the first principles of mathematics and geometry true, but I do not dismiss mathematics, for instance.

There is another option, the Bible is correct. Oh, but THAT thought didn't enter their minds, of course. Their biased, just like everyone else. Their conclusions are based on preassumpsions that the Bible is false, so they will never see it as right.

I love this reason every time it is presented to me. Just once I'd love to debate with someone that actually has more to say than "because God told us so."

It's a good thing that the Bible has more reasonable arguments than this. The problem is that almost no religious Christians in America do their homework.

I find all of Bombulous' "reasoning" to be highly illogical.. proving more points. :D

@Bombulous: Did you know that there is a substantial following of people in the world who actually do believe that the Bible is the Unquestionable Word of God for this exact "reason"?

That is definitely the definition of begging the question -- but the example is so poorly chosen. It is an accurate example as far as it goes...but it shows a pretty basic lack of understand for why people believe the Bible is the word of God. I for instance believe it for two reasons, one rational and one evidential -- the first, that it makes more sense than anything else I have ever read (though note that it contains more blasted confusion also); and the second, that the truth of it has been borne out in my life countless times, and continues to be so borne. Which is all just a long way of saying that the example is a low blow, and even if only chosen for illustrative purposes, is a lazy way of pretending that Christianity is illogical (which is so much easier than really meeting it face-to-face =).
