5 Rules of Thumb for Web Workers According to Rules of Thumb.org (a site where you can waste a dangerous amount of time) a rule of thumb is "a homemade recipe for making guess." I tend to think of them more as little bits of random knowledge that I pull out when I don't actually want to think about things in detail. Om Malik, Rebooting The Workforce Hello NetSet "Job security, forty hour weeks, two Martini lunches, ties, nylons and handwritten memos are now relics of the past, while freelancing, flex time, lattes, company t-shirts, jeans and email are de rigeur. An `office' now includes idyllic campuses that can be lived in, well, to any sandy beach, rowdy bar or coffee roastery with Internet connections. Either way, you can wear pajamas to work."

What mck134 said. ("The new site is a blog for the distributed worker, where the office is wherever their laptop happens to be. Cell phones, Skype, laptops and other tools have made it possible for an entire generation of workers to do their thing outside of an actual office." He said it much better than I could.)
