From the page: "This past holiday (I've been bugging him since November about it) my good friend Don Hopkins got a lot of work done on the finishing touches on releasing the original SimCity source code under the GNU General Public Library (GPL). The code won't have reference to any SimCity name as that has all be renamed to Micropolis. Micropolis was the original working title of the game and since EA requires that the GPL open source version not use the same name as SimCity (to protect their trademark) a little work had to be done to the code."

That blogger should lose the earring. Wow. And Stellare is a dumb bitch. Do it yourself or STFU.

SimCity - a challenge for Open Source programmers? Why do not all of you terrific programmers out there make a Linux platform game out of this now? And show that you can outperform the other platform versions by making a simulator of a quality beyond our wildest imagination - THAT WILL BE A REAL WORLD TOOL FOR DISASTER MITIGATION. Include real-life like disasters based on real science. I can offer bundles of catastrophes for you: Earthquakes, tsunamis, Earth Wobbling!, climate change sea level rise,... I challenge you to read my article SimCity vs Real World. I do not know what I have done wrong - the EA will not even respond to my polite and intelligent emails.

how can they remove the plane crash disaster from the sim city source code? Yes, 9/11 was bad, but there are non terrorist related plane crashes. If they're taking it out because people died because of that, why not take out the Fire and Tornado disasters, huh? more people in the history of the world have died from those than the 9/11 attack. on the upside, Sim City source code is available to play with.

The original SimCity source code has been released GPLv3. Due to existing copyrights, all "SimCity" references have been changed to Micropolis, the original working name.
