educazione discovered 15 months ago- In the last 10 minutes of this video, a term is brought up that I think clearly defines what has become of the United States. The Precautionary Principle calls for action not to be taken in the face of measurable, definable evidence but rather to assume the facts in evidence are simply insufficient to prove what is, in fact, happening. If you believe something sinister is happening but you cannot prove it with the available evidence, the Precautionary Principle requires you to act as though you have already proven it. In essence, action without evidence is justified if the result of inaction is catastrophic. And, of course, you get to decide what is and is not catastrophic so you can always justify your actions, however depraved, immoral, or illegal those actions might be.
As one of the last people interviewed stated, the Precautionary Principle is 180 degrees from the current system of jurisprudence in the U.S. and in most western nations. Under the Precautionary Principle you can be locked up for what someone believes you might do in the future, not for what you have done or are currently doing. Our legal system requires evidence of a crime or, at the very least, of criminal intent, in order to convict someone and remove their liberty -- or worse -- from them. But how do you prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone might do something in the future? More importantly, how does the accused disprove what his accuser believes the accused might do in the future? Where do you go to find evidence to disprove what cannot be proven in the first place but can -- and is -- resulting in people being incarcerated in prisons around the world?- In the last 10 minutes of this video, a term is brought up that I think clearly defines what has become of the United States.
