This is a hilarious and at the same time a sad whitewash of Islamic expansionism into Europe. It manages to glorify and romanticize the Islamic invaders and at the same time disparage and demonize the Spanish Reconquista. After watching this, I'm left with the impression that Al-Andalus is a Christian Spanish occupied territory and should be promptly returned to its rightful Muslim owners. I couldn't help but notice that this British commentator possesses that very delusional, anti-Western zeal of a modern-day dhimmi.

A fairly lengthy (1hr 42 min) vision of the sequence of events that shaped Spain. The Islamic heritage and it's wealth of knowledge and culture. Though in places a touch slanted, take from it what you can. If nothing else this will open your eyes a bit wider.

From the page: "This short documentary describes the glorious rule of Muslim Moors in what is now Spain. A forgotten history is remembered. Visit www.IslamicVideos.net for more videos like this!" Thank you XineAnn.

When the Moors Ruled Europe The Alhambra is not a fairytale palace, isolated from history. The Alhambra is a triumph of mathematics as much as aesthetics. Mathematical ingenuity is the root of its beauty. The Alhambra was built by a religious empire which at the pinnacle of its power dominated land from China to Africa. A documentary, but not an unbiased one, and hence the mixed reviews. I'm not opposed to a little bias in the opposed direction of what I'm usually exposed to. Wear your critical thinking cap to sort fact from er... propaganda? Or if you can't, turn off the sound and just watch the pictures. 1 hr., 42 minutes. Get popcorn. Recommended.

i'm thumbing this down because i have studied this period on my own and in school, and let me tell you, the muslims were just like every other invader in history. this just glorifies them and makes it look like Spain was better off with them

Brilliant history documentary from the BBC on the period of time when Islam ruled almost all of modern day Spain. This was an enlightened Islamic rule and influence that tolerated the three major faiths - Islam, Christianity and Judaism. It was a time when architecture, the arts and science all flourished. This program shows how Classical Greek works were saved by Islamic empires, and that these works of philosophy, science and mathematics were not only preserved but expanded upon. The key point is that these works were translated into Latin which laid the groundwork for the Renaissance and the intellectual growth of Europe as a whole. This is a timely piece, given the current state of relation between Islam and the West. Very well done and well worth watching this program. One hour, forty-two minutes. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-768956312207897325&q=When+the +Moors+ruled+in+Europe&total=39&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=0

This interested me because I had not learnt much of this period in my studies at school. Especially fascinating was the intellectual and educational focus of the moors bringing ancient knowledge to the Iberians.

I've given this a thumbs up even though I haven't watched all 1 hour and 42 minutes of it. Yet. I am familiar with the historical territory the video covers and am looking forward to watching the rest.
