- I heard about this on Democracy Now. UN says 1 out of 3 women will be raped or beaten in their lives. Everywhere in the world. I feel it's critical to face this to heal the world. V-Day is a great focus on this global system.

If you and your SO both donate to one of these causes, instead of pumping money into the 'corporate feed the greed machine' just because a card company tells you to, you will be helping to save women from rape, incest, battery, genital mutilation and sexual slavery. Help make Valentines Day something real. If you have been taught that February 14th has anything at all to do with showing someone how much you love or care for them. then follow this link and find out what you really need to do to show love. Take them to a V-Day event in your area. Donate in their name to V-Day or Amnesty International or the church based program at your church, or other organization. Find the organization in your area. Start an organization in your area. But a bumper sticker on your big bad pickup truck (or trade that resource hog in for something with the future generations in mind). So many better ways than flowers air freighted from South America, mindless greeting cards, last minute Pajama Grams, tired cliche heart shaped boxes filled with really bad chocolates, (although fair trade slavery free chocolates the week before or the week after are ok....hint), acrylic and pvc teddy bears with some sappy saying, panty cards, etc. ok...you get the point for now
