bwaaaaa, the problem is systemic and the site is epileptic. Awesome, yeah, everyone get these bulbs. I have them, and I'm sure they're saving me money. But anyone who feels like they're actually saving the environment is deluding themselves. Like cutting the plastic packaging of 6 packs, this is a band-aid on a gushing bullet wound to the neck: we need massive political action - buying these bulbs doesn't change the terrible mining and manufacturing methods used to produce them... until multi-billion dollar corporations decide to do anything, driving a Prius or getting these lightbulbs is just rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.

Somehow I managed to stumble across this page. It is without a doubt one of the dumbest sites I have ever come across. The Squiggly tube bulbs they advocate contain mercury. Who wants a bunch of mercury lying around. Someone said to me recently that it was only a small amount of mercury and not to be concerned with. Really? Multiply that small amount by the tens of millions of bulbs needed to replace those in the US alone. Not such a small amount anymore is it?

Here's to mercury in our groundwater! Hooray! I mean, because we KNOW that the majority of people buying those new-fangled lights are NO turning them in properly. But, hey, we've got to jump on the GREEN bandwagon, so...
