Seriously stumbleupon, what do I have to do? I keep thumbing down pages JUST LIKE THIS ONE, and still I keep getting them. Now, I know that running programs under wine, toggling compiz on/off, or "giving Ubuntu a cool look" are all horribly essential to using the operating system in question, but once again, none of these lists contains basics for the newbie (who I assume these type of lists are aimed at). All they contain are completely random, mostly non-essential "tips." Not to sound like an elitist prick, but the community surrounding Ubuntu is becoming more and more stupid. Of course, that's probably just a result of its popularity. Still, I can't believe there exist so many blogs that share not only the same topic, but the same level of uselessness. Now be a good boy and install Debian.

"Ubuntu restricted extras allow you to easy install everything that Ubuntu can't include by default for legal reasons." You can't just tell people to do this without explaining the severe implications that follow. This is exactly the kind of thing that will ruin free software development.
