"This image makes the assumption that because of the war against terror, America no longer represents democracy and human rights." ... *points at Guantanamo*

This is what happens when people forget history and then base their political judgements on the fear mongering that has been spoon fed to them. Anyone that's bothered to read the 9/11 Commission's report know that they didn't attack us because "they hate our freedoms", and so bombing them more (along with towns, hospitals, homes.. yes, it's happened, look it up) won't exactly make them go away. And torture? Why, what a wonderful topic! Mindless neo-con drones love torture; but somewhere along the lines they forgot that throughout history it's never worked.

This image makes the assumption that because of the war against terror, America no longer represents democracy and human rights. I would argue that much of our reason for still being in Iraq is to prevent human rights abuse and the genocide of a people at the hands of 15th century barbarians.

A pendulum has always swung between the extremes of security and privacy in this country. That pendulum moves as needed to protect the civil liberties and security of American citizens.

I am glad there are citizens who are scared of their government. Their existence insures that privacy remains intact and that we don't sacrifice too much for our security.

Yet, being an advocate for security, I must push as hard from the other direction on the pendulum to make sure that our security is not sacrificed for the human rights of those who commit senseless murder in the name of fascism.
