AttemptingReason discovered 7 months ago- Short biographical piece about Hawaiian atheist and civil activist Mitch Kahle.

- From the page: "Once, when he tried to remove religious symbols from the office doors at the State Capitol, he landed in the hospital after being manhandled by an angry volunteer legislative aid."
Ah, those nice and peaceful people full of religious morals! - From the page: "Once, when he tried to remove religious symbols from the office doors at the State Capitol, he landed in the hospital after being manhandled by an angry volunteer legislative aid."

droe82 rated 7 months ago- Very few other news stories local to places where I don't live and from six years ago would interest me, either.

ejf001 rated 7 months ago- Is this dude me in 20 years?

Comicartist666 rated 7 months ago- This guy has a lot of really good points

Innomen rated 7 months ago- "Added Kaufmann, "Kahle seems to be denying America's history. The foundations of this country are based on religion.""

Bronz93 rated 7 months ago- From the page: "What's his goal? "To be saved," he said. And then, with a sly and unrepentant grin he added, "... from God's followers.""

the6thmonkey rated 7 months ago- Other than the fact that Kahle (rhymes with rail)

ikkepagrasset rated 7 months ago- Interesting. He kinda sounds like a jerk, but not really. His opponents really sound like jerks. I don't know. I'm agnostic specifically because I don't want to make a choice in either direction -- they both seem bad -- and this is another one of those deals.

Vakratunda rated 7 months ago- Hey Sketchsepahi, Read the article more carefully! The first paragraph directly contradicts what you said. "Mitchell Kahle added another scalp to his belt when restrictions on apparel and accessories depicting Satanism were yanked from Kaimuki High School's dress code last week." Kahle fought to have the satanist shirt allowed in the school along side christian shirts. He made the argument that if one religious shirt is to be banned then they should all be banned, but he didn't push for the ban at all, in fact he fought for and succeeded in getting satan shirts allowed. Nothing is more annoying than people making cavalier statements that aren't even based on the facts at hand. Reading comprehension is an important life skill. Brush up on it.
By the way I'm not even an atheist, and yet I stand fully for what Kahle is doing. He isn't about infringing on people's rights to wear religious clothing, he is fighting against the incestuous marriage of church and state. The schools ban on satanic shirts is a clear example of religious bias embedded in state institutions. If they were being neutral and academic as they should have been there should have been no differentiation made between a cross and a pentagram. The truth of the matter is that we still live in a time where 13th century thinking still thrives in the public domain. Sure they can't burn us at the stake as heretics as easily any more, but the same principles are still in action just watered down.- Hey Sketchsepahi, Read the article more carefully! - I agree with sketchsepahi: "I am an atheist but I would fight to death for the right to wear a cross, if one so chooses."
The article also seems to marginalize the actual discussion Mitch is trying to promote -- and marginalize it as "hey, look at the wacky atheist". - I agree with sketchsepahi: "I am an atheist but I would fight to death for the right to wear a cross, if one so chooses."
