From the page: "Change your lightbulbs, buy local food, keep your tires properly inflated: all of us in the green publishing space, both online and off, promote such actions as ways for all of us to live greener lives, and, more specifically, to cut our carbon footprints. â€oeLow-hanging fruit” approaches to personal sustainability appeal to us because of their simplicity: we donâ€t have to make major changes in our lives to feel like weâ€re making a difference. As we attempt to reach beyond the â€oegreen” audience to people who are still â€oetesting the waters,” and who are intimidated by the notion that â€oegoing green” means making major sacrifices, tips provide a valuable introduction to lowering oneâ€s personal impact."

Good, in-depth look at a very complicated question. Just the sort of nuance that conservative nit-pickers will latch onto a corner of and shake like a dog, but that doesn't mean the point aren't valid and very worth investigation by those who are already on their way to doing their part. The point about born-again junior ecologists is a *very* good point. Greener-than-thou is just as bad as anything else and it can be ascribed to you even if you don't get on anyone's case about anything. I've actually had people apologise to me for having a Jeep. WTF? Am I the eco-patrol? Perhaps my nose ring has more power than I thought.
