From the page: "The way I see it, the moment that word leaves your mouth you've already placed yourself into a category---Idiot--- despite your race, ethnicity, and background. If you're white and you use it, you're an idiot. If you're black and you say it, still an idiot. "

Read here --->This blog is worth reading. Racism is still a big deal in the US and Lucy, for better or worse, has headed directly into the firestorm.

This post reminded me of the power we place on words whether we are affected by them or take them back or not, it is a choice, as is our decision to be offended by these "words." Too much offense seems to go on these days. Perhaps if we asked more questions than made assumptions there would be a little more room for open hearts, communication and understanding.

Holy guacamole! I think I've just come face to face with yet the toughest arch nemesis to date. I come unprepared to fight in this battle where the last comic standing weeps in maddening laughter. I think it'll be best that I make use one of my life lines and support Lucy instead. Satirical humor takes a great deal of wit, creativity, courage and balancing while juggling dulled machetes and flaming balls of fire. Satire is generally not the cup of tea of the uninformed, sophisticated complexity syndrome, and serious but boring type of people. Rise to the top and grab that prize whatever it takes sister. I'm having latte with Paula Abdul right now and she is nodding in agreement. : )

An excellent, well thought out and extremely rational article. I particularly liked this part: "You have the ability to stop yourself from reacting. You can train yourself out of it--to not affect you, especially if you don't consider yourself one" This is the best way to prevent bigotry of any kind. People need to know that they can take charge of their emotions and that this is a positive thing and doesn't make you a robot. Great job!

Very nice post! I do believe being offended by the N-word also acknowledges its power. And before one can get past it and strip it off its power, one must stop being offended by its use. The N-word refers to something that does not exist. It refers to a stereotype, an idea born in the racist brain. By acknowledging this idea, people give more power to it. The best way to kill this idea is to affirm that what it represents does not exist, and never did.

From the page: "(I even have a problem saying my people because it sounds so exclusive, like I'm drawing a circle in the sand and forcing others to stay out.) In fact, the key to ending racism is eliminating exclusivity. Erase the line. End racism by including everyone and accepting everyone as your own--as your son, as your daughter, as your mother, as your creepy uncle. I mean, c'mon, you tolerate his creepiness by inviting him back to all the family reunions. And you can't tolerate some other completely sane person of another background?)"
