PZ Myers gives us a good run-down of what "Plan B" (i.e., the "Morning After Pill") is, and just what it does and doesn't do. And in doing so, he uses science to expose something I've been saying for years -- that the battle about birth control (and to a lesser extent abortion) is all about controlling womens' bodies. Pure and simple, no other way to interpret it. Such is the ugly side of fundementalism. (Of course, is there a not-so-ugly side?)

"Plan B gives women the ability to control, to a limited extent, when they will expel a gamete. In purely reproductive terms, it's a bit like a male's ability to control when he will ejaculate, or expel his gametes. That's it. No fertilized zygotes are involved, so that level of the birth control debate isn't even relevant. It's simple, responsible, and safe. You'd have to be insane to object to Plan B."

This is an excellent explanation of how Plan B (emergency contraception) works. It does *not* produce abortion. Why the opponents of Plan B would demand a woman conceive because of rape is utterly beyond my comprehension.
