&Scratch Beginnings& explores work, poverty and the American Dream...

Yes, staying poor is an unwillingness to work or make good choices. The "I'm extremely unlucky" excuse has not weight to it. Yes, there are some, very few, that's true. But so many people use things like that as an excuse and a crutch, they ruined it.

i think mindlessly stating that "anyone can pull them self out of poverty and realize the american dream!" without an analytical or critical thought in regards to the situation and a larger scale is missing a deeper point. if anyone really could do it, why would anyone want to use a newspaper as a blanket during winter nights? why would anyone want to receive the perpetual ire of the less-than-compassionate, condescending and malevolent upper-classes? if escaping poverty was as easy as this well-spoken, drug- and mental illness-free white male makes it seem then why hasn't poverty vanished trans-nationally? there are more questions that need to be asked and more ways to approach the situation than to simply rationalize out that anyone and everyone can do it. and i'd like to see this con-man donate a large sum of these profits to the homeless shelter he scandalously abused and to compensate for committing fraud to receive food stamps for his little experiment. if this man was a war veteran missing a limb, who sacrificed his educational career to fight and then was not compensated with an education, maybe then his argument would be more well-rounded. this seems too much like the privileged class assessing poverty from the viewpoint that they don't realize is truly privileged.

I had to vote for Fake poor...it's not about the money you have, it's about how people perceive you. If you act like you have money people will give you money. If you act like you have LOTS of money, people will GIVE you lots of money. That's how scammers and con artists work. Plus I'd be a lot more likely to believe it if he wasn't a white guy. Do the same experiment only this time, actually get 3 poor guys: one white, one black and one mexican, and see which of the three does the best. My money is on the white guy...Well, unless he's got a shitload of tattoos and a criminal record a mile long anyway.

I disagree with the article on poverty. Also, the site is looking at "both sides" of politics? That doesnt make sense since there is more than just left and right or black and white issues.

"So upon graduation..." It must have been so hard getting off the streets being a young graduate with no drug problem.
