  • Randy Haddock - Thanks for ruining this day for me, Barack.

From the page: See, this is different from when Jose Ferrer became the first Hispanic to win an Oscar; or when Franklin Chang-Diaz became the first Hispanic to go into space; or when Antonia Coello Novello became the first woman and first Hispanic to serve as U.S. Surgeon General; or when... more

Great, another one of those "they use their race to get ahead" assholes.

Well written, informative article. I agree that her nomination has nothing to do with her abilities (or lack of), but her race and that in itself is a racist attitude that we're all working to move past!

I think her statements about being able to make a "better" decision than white male counterparts is somewhat troubling, but I don't see it as a game-breaker, maybe just one strike of three. The political gain argument is nonsense. If he had picked an aged white guy you could make the same argument: "He just picked a white guy so white people would vote for him, and he's elderly- he must be after the senior vote!". I don't really care what her ethnic background is so for me it's a non-issue, why should I care if she's black or white or green or blue? It's a completely hypocritical argument. This would be untrue if she wasn't a good judge but she would certainly not be the least-fit justice to join the Supreme Court. As far as her political alignment she's not a conservative but she's not really much of a liberal either It's really not something that could possibly ruin my day. But I don't see any major problems with her as a Justice especially as a replacement for Souter. She has, after all, been recommended as a Supreme Court Justice on several occasions by democrats. After looking up a few of her cases some of her opinions on cases are quite impressive.

my thoughts exactly. I 'm so pissed off that her nomination is purely politial. Ironically, she got the job because of her race, which is racism. I HATE racism.

I agree with this blog post. As someone who is an unclassified racial minority(multi-ethnic), I find it insulting when I see minorities being given jobs simply because they are minorities. Perhaps she is qualified but before the Republicans got noticeably upset, all the Democrats could talk about is how she is a Hispanic woman. I think anyone with two eyes or even one can see she's not white; we don't need to put a spotlight on it. Minorities can feel proud without guilty white liberals going, "Look, look what we did for your people." I'm supposed to feel gratitude and encouragement, I guess, but all it does is create doubt.
