It sounds to me like the American public's being taken out to Pasteur on this one.

Tom Harkin was my senator for years and years until recently when I moved from Iowa. He has been a very good legislator and has supported issues important to both Iowans and liberals. His role in inserting little provisions into the bill mentioned in this article, however, shows what I long suspected: Tom Harkin is a sneaky politician. IS THERE ANY OTHER KIND??? The problems with stamping "pasteurized" on irradiated meat are plenty. Okay, the bill probably would help the meat industry back home, but let's not do so by misleading the public, bypassing FDA approval, and sneaking this treated meat into school cafeterias.
