Thumbs up Reviews of this stumbler

We need to pay attention to this person. I am one that uses the internet to promote my business, but I respect the bloggers on SU enough not to "get in their face" about my business. There are places on the internet for that kind of behavior; SU is not one.

Very well-said. And I agree. I try to flag/tag and leave it at that, but every now and then I am too frustrated to stick to that plan. A lot of spammers do seem to get banned or "under review", but often they are ones I never heard of before. And yet many that I believe are horribly blatant seem to thrive. If what is making that difference is how much money they make for SU, that would be very discouraging for regular stumblers like me. The last few days have found me feeling rather apathetic and drained, which I blame on spammers, horrible stumbles, true SU characters getting banned, SEO-led propaganda wars, and vampire-leech fans I loathe. I used to come here to enjoy myself; now I spend half my stumbling time feeling annoyed, bored, and/or angry. Two things keep me here: mutuals and discovering sites. The rest sucks.

My friend Deborah has written something excellent here, and written it well. Go read it. I have never asked for a review nor will I ever. I try and review back people who review me as a courtesy, BUT I really don't care if anyone reviews me or not. It's not that I don't appreciate that someone took the time to do it...I do., and it's nice to be liked, especially by people that I feel I have something in common with , but I am not on here to sell anything or please anyone but myself. I don't mind people sending me stuff they honestly think I'd be interested in. If I like it I thumb it up. If I don't I close the window. If it gets to be too much or they constantly ask for reviews, they get ignored. Simple as that. Go read what Deborah wrote. It's way better than my stupid ramblings. By the way if you're on my mutuals list it means that I really dig your stuff! Same goes if I'm a fan of yours. The fact that I am a lazy bastard when it comes to reviewing people I should have reviewed a long time ago in no ways diminishes that. And that goes for a bunch of people on my fan list that I can't mutual back because SU has that stupid 200 limit. Every time I go to delete someone I'm a fan of to make more room I find something cool on their page and get sidetracked. I fucking hate limitations .

I actually just experienced this for the first time three days ago. Most definitely annoying while stumbling.

I couldn't agree more with this SU blogger's article. I've seen a marked increase in the number of stumblers messaging me going "please review this site" followed by, "I will review yours in return". And you go to the site. And it's selling shit. Yes... not promoting interesting, knowledge extending, thought provoking links and articles.... but selling.. shit. Like wallets or medical drugs. Or promoting pay for events. Or solely linking to one site that happens to be full of one-click-per-site-makes-me-lots-of-money advertising. Cynical networking, in the pursuit of money. It is detrimental to the SU community spirit, and is being left to continue by SU 'powers that be'. Thanks Proximal, for an eloquent, salient article. Vote down the spam. Use ignore. Use your head...

Deb tells it like it is on the relationship between SU and spammers. Its funny that even though SU has a dedicated advertising route for web sites there seems little discouragement from SU apart, from a few token words, against the spammers/SEO/get rich quick blog idiots that seem to have filled SU with their bullshit and nonsense and who frankly have no fucking concept what an internet strategy or a community is. SU is becoming full of the double glazing sellers of the internet.

You gotta choose your friends wisely (sadly) -- I've gotten more crap in recent weeks, but I still feel my experience on here is worth it. If people spam you, block them. I don't participate in the forums so I can't comment on that. Everybody seems to be aware that there is a problem, so maybe just the zeitgeist will solve that problem (by voting down spam sites and stumblers.)
