"The red ball at the top of the pyramid is the diminished seventh chord." The Geometry of Music - article reporting about new attempts to analyse music mathematically. I find the description of the methods used rather vague, but at least they seem to produce nice pictures. Also on the page: Some interesting looking links to different articles that have in some way to do with mathematics and music.

i'm so glad i was not assigned a paper on musical theory in grad school.....i was however assigned one on *the four-colour map theory* to this day i look at a map and get a queasy feeling............... i just noticed the only tag on this is music, i added mathematics.....dear lord protector of the infinite universe![hehehehe, i just swore to myself] don't ya get it yet EVERYTHING IS MATHEMATICS!!!!!!!
