jjjunebugg rated 3 months ago- . SO VERY RED........jjjunebugg:) Remember Red for Women's Heart Health! Heart Attack and Heart Related Conditions are the number one killer of women in the United States. I, jjjunebugg:), am a stoke survivor, thankfully with no remaining deficits. The event occurred without warning and initially diagnosis was missed because although I had paralysis of my right hand and arm, cat scans failed to reveal that my brain was affected. Even with worsening paralysis and symptoms over several days, there was failure to diagnose and treat stroke. Thankfully, my knowledge of stroke symptoms led me to begin aspirin therapy on my own, since no definitive treatment was occurring. That, along with my reliance on God's care and healing power possibly saved my life and certainly contributed to my improvement and total recovery with all but the tiniest deficit in fine motor skills in my hand. Only some months later, an astute neurologist, while treating me for Restless Leg Syndrome, became concerned on hearing that part of my medical history. Immediately ordering a doplar study of the corotid arteries confirmed that indeed a stroke had occurred with a finding that my left corotid artery is completely blocked. I was told that cat scans are not always sufficient for diagnosing stroke, that an MRI would have been necessary although that was never done. Thankfully and amazingly, I am not impaired because a number of smaller arteries have taken over the work of the corotid and for this time nothing is to be done to correct the blockage, citing increased risk of blood clots with intervention. Interestingly, after a later heart catheterization, my heart and vessels seem to be basically healthy with no blockages. I learned that blockages such as mine can occur resulting even from some arterial irritation where no other areas are affected. The sobering fact that one stroke greatly increases the risk of a second and difficulty in controlling my hypertension with it's onset at about age 50, along with some family history of heart disease has been an alarming experience for me, who had always been extremely active and healthy. Heart disease and stroke can strike anyone at anytime, so know your risks, know the warning signs, and be an advocate for yourself. If, like me, you believe you have been affected with stroke-like symptoms or those of a heart attack, keep insisting on diagnostic procedures until a correct diagnosis can be made. Prompt treatment of either stroke or heart attack is necessary for survival and a good outcome. Neither occurred in my case. I believe it is only by the grace of God and my own knowledge and action that I am a survivor with such a positive result. Be proactive to protect your own life and the lives of others. Like me.....DIE ANOTHER DAY......jjjunebugg:) Great photo, paintgoddess... .
