Hearing vs Understanding
or: "You could build a computer for that price!"
My mother-in-law lost her voice, due to ineptitude, incompetence, and/or cancer. She can only speak with the aid of an electronic larynx. For the past few years I have been searching in vain for a better way to do this, since these things are the technological equivalent of a $300-$700 shaver. I know it can be done, but I can't seem to find anyone willing to do it. All I want is a system that uses speech recognition to take what she says and turn it into understandable speech. If you then turn up the frequency of the sound generator into the inaudible range all you can hear is the understandable speech.
