The Proteus, invented and designed by Ugo Conti, is 100 feet long and has a beam of 50 feet.
The Proteus comes in modular parts that be reassembled in about an hour to create a completely different vessel, according to Marine Advanced Research. And all parts are built with easier shipping and storage in mind.
Each pontoon has a propeller that is attached to the rear but can be swapped for a different propulsion system--to jets, for example. The engine can also be changed from from gas to diesel. The pontoons carry tanks inside, which can store up to 2,000 gallons of fuel, enough to last 5,000 miles and cross an ocean.
There's even a crow's nest of sorts above the cabin area. It can be switched from a luxury cabin for two to a 12-passenger transport or a scuba diving platform.
