Well, I think I've lived long enough: they're recycling the news, now. War and politics don't count, for some reason. Wasn't this info released about 3 years ago? Or am I just an amazingly well-read and saw this in "Scientific American" or "American Scientist" while sitting in a Costa Coffee drinking a double latte half-caff-decaf-twisty-lemoned-
non-environmentally-disturbing-carbon-
footpri nt-friendly steaming hot beverage? Couldn't have been "Discover" because their articles are basically newspaper-ready and often are plugged by News Corp.
Anyway, geckos use nano-sized particle accelerators in their toes to obliterate the surface area under their feet; the resulting plasma base allows them to stick to the wall. If they don't move in a timely manner, the particle accelerators overheat and explode, which can spread the gecko over a city block. Fortunately, geckos are small and thus we don't notice the particulate matter rainging down on us. In their natural environment, they tend to swing on vines like Tarzan. Only they're smaller. And with less mass. And actually, they can't make the vine swing because of this. And they don't necessarily yodel while not swinging.
But this is the kind of detail mass media leaves out.
