Dr Who Fan In Knitted Puppet Row
"A Doctor Who fan is embroiled in a row with the BBC after she published knitting patterns for the sci-fi drama's monsters on the internet. The patterns of Ood and Adipose were removed from her website after the BBC's commercial arm complained that they breached its copyright."
Good grief. I would never have guessed that the evil rodent was a knitter.

I'm not sure how to react to this story. It is true that the BBC needs to assert its intellectual property rights in order to preserve them, and it is true that Dr Who is particularly lucrative. However, a balance does need to be taken, and punishing innocent fans who mean no harm to the BBC can come across as heavy-handed. They also need to be wary of the bad publicity they can attract - remember the McLibel case? I think Ella gives me too much credit when she suggests this might be my knitting! I wish.

As ever the BBC alienate(pune intended) the TV Taxpayers they claim to be doing such a wonderful job for. For these gits a Fan = cash cow. It may help to pay for all those 'We know where you live' Adverts that the BBC seem to be overwhelming TV and Radio with. I'm too vexed to type.
