Good reference for keeping the current separation of church and state.

Well most of these men were masons so it would make sense that they had contempt for religion. (I'm not saying All Freemason don't believe in religion)

My ultra-conservative uncle sends me a lot of email. Mostly it's all of the Rights talking points, but yesterday he sent me this jingoistic bit about how 86% of this country is Christian (incorrect) and that because they have the majority they should tell all of us who believe differently to "sit down and shut up". I thought about sending him back some well reasoned arguments along with some of the quotes from this page. I know that he'd never read it though, so here it is for the rest of you.

Great, scholarly resource for those who still think the USA is "A Christian Nation". Way to go!

Anyone who thinks this is a "christian nation founded on christian principles" needs to give this a read.

From the page: "It will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service [formation of the American governments] had interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the influence of Heaven..." President John Adams

A great resource to puncture a few religious assumptions about the US Founding Fathers.

A nice collection of quotes here. I always appreciated Thomas Jefferson particularly on this front (and in numerous other ways).
