ethanol9bio rated 3 months ago- Writing about how the social marketing of rape prevention is insulting to the normal man, "a junior English major" concludes that 'we're all worse off because of [the social marketing of rape prevention]'. Really? These two crazy dumb points shine particularly bright.
1) The calculus leading to 'we're all worse off because of it' statement seems to ignore the fact that the 'we'--in this case a college campus--includes people who may not have been victim to sexual assault because of these programs. It's painful to even have to say that a fleeting moment of annoyance is incomparable to the experience of being sexually violated.
2) The writer seems to be personally insulted by the fact that most rape is committed by someone the victim already knows. That's a fact, not a judgment on your worth as a 'normal' man.
This whole essay reminds me of an episode of Bullshit! on geneticly modified food where Pen speaking of uninformed protesters concludes, "unless you and yours are starving, shut the fuck up." Shut the fuck up indeed.
