As I've written elsewhere, once the economy hit the fan, this man did not want to win this election. He was so gracious because he was actually relieved.

I'm so sick of everyone praising his recession speech. Yes, it would have been hard, but he had no other option. He had very clearly lost; it was in his best political interest to exit gracefully. Every concession speech goes more or less this way. Kerry didn't get this much credit for his recession speech (which was almost identical) and that election was close enough that he could have challenged it.

Well said. I also think his concession speech was McCain's best of the campaign. He would have given Obama more of a fight if he had been doing speeches like this for the last six months.

McCain's concession speech was miles better than Obama's acceptance speech. It was like he was back to normal, without having to pander to the extremists.
