Heard hardcore trekkers say the poncho is the best. Multiple uses and no one wants to steal it. As to the Swiss Army Knife, I'd up it to a Leatherman Tool or something. Can't tell you how often a pair of pliers come in handy while roaming the civilized and uncivilized worlds.
