As a woman in the software development field, I appreciate Martin Fowler's thoughtful response to Matt Aimonetti's talk "CouchDB + Ruby: Perform Like a Pr0n Star". Women in the software field still face sexism regularly; they must outperform their male peers in addition to tolerating harassment in order to be taken seriously. Many of the men in the industry don't even recognize the sexism that is taking place. Matt Aimonetti's talk epitomizes the generally negative atmosphere amongst young, male programmers towards their female peers.
