Adaptability Skin colour map (indigenous people). (2007). In UNEP/GRID-Arendal Maps and Graphics Library. We adapt to the environment we live in. This map shows that we adapt to radiation from the Sun (and other factors of course).

I don't mean to sound like a liberal weenie, but maybe we shouldn't be so concerned with people's skin color. You know?

Skin colour map (indigenous people). The twin role played by the skin - protection from excessive UV radiation and absorption of enough sunlight to trigger the production of vitamin D - means that people living in the lower latitudes, close to the Equator, with intense UV radiation, have developed darker skin to protect them from the damaging effects of UV radiation. In contrast, those living in the higher latitudes, closer to the Poles, have developed fair skin to maximize vitamin D production.

This doesn't work, because Native Americans in the north have dark skin. "White" people there are mostly of french and british decent. This supposed adaptation can't be applied to colonized areas, and even native americans weren't always there.
