Was rummaging around in Jude's attic and found this - dates back to October, 2006!

You know what I love about Judefa? She states her concerns in a intelligent well thought out manner. When she has something to say she says it in way that holds my interest and makes me consider her points of view. I wish everyone who had something to say about v4 good or bad would do so with the level of class Judefa is currently displaying within her pages. *tip of that hat to you girl* From the sounds of it she is less than pleased with the forth version of the StumbleUpon interface (in fact I think she is mad as hell) and I have to say I found myself agreeing with more than one of her points. Of course I am still little miss Pollyanna as I continue to hope for the best while I proceed to learn my way around the new interface that I am growing to like more each day. So we don't agree on everything but she does make valid points here and I think many will agree with me on that.

Judefa provides some well thought out insight into the horrors of the new even more dumbed down and marketing oriented SU. Very sad.

At Last! An explanation that makes sense... why don't the developers just come right out and say that? Instead they say they are trying to work with us, and at the same time saying, "No such thing as a bl*g, etc"In V4 there Is No Such Thing as a Blog! It's not even an option... If you're not stumbling, you got no presence! (Which I Can work with... I can put plenty of opinion on a pretty picture page.) SU, just come out and Say it, then! From the Page:What SU is doing, in fact, is enlisting our friends, sorry, subscribeesto send us to websites rather than their reviews or postings.I hadan inkling this was happening some months back when the default tag forstumblers was changed by the system from "stumblers" to "Stumbleupon".If someone can give me a good non-marketing reason for the new UI, please speak up.Cos the way I see it, each new phase of SU has been a further attempt to re-engineer it as a PR/promotions network.

Master Li's latest invention, "The Old Folks Patent Leg Lifter Upper" has been undergoing prototype trials at the "Heavens Annexe" Old Folks Home here in Royston Vasey. The first model used the sound of the vacuum cleaner to activate the Lifter Upper. This worked well until old Mr Hetherington fell asleep in his chair. His snores were just on the right pitch to activate the lifts so that a row of legs rose and fell in time to his snores. Master Li then substituted a motion detector from a security light but again it detected not only the vacuum cleaner but anyone walking past so that a Mexican wave of legs followed them down the room. Master Li then went back to basics and fitted a two button control so that the Old Folk can lower the lift to get in the chair and lift it once in position. Old Mr Hetherington has had to banned from the common room as the sight of all those horizontal ladies was getting him over excited. Thanks Judefa

As much as I'll miss the repetitive reviews of the same stumblers over and over again, it's probably time that she and her various incarnations move onto greener pastures. Although somehow I doubt that's really gonna happen.

I don't agree with everything that Jude says, especially when it comes to Scotland, but I liked her comments about journalism and on line news. Journalism is in crisis just now and no one seems to care. Television stations and newspapers are finding it harder and harder to be profitable and one result of this is that they are less inclined to pay for quality reporting. On the other hand companies and other organisations are more aware than ever of the need for good public relations and are happy to send `news' stories to the media. And so as the number of PR men increases the number of journalists declines. It can't be good for public awareness when we are reading what companies, governments and the military want us to know. When it comes to knowledge of Scotland however Jude is less on the ball and I would like to invite her to visit later in the year, perhaps in November, late November maybe, when I will be happy to show her Rob Roy's cave. Bring a waterproof and wellies!
