Unfortunately, while evidence is very good at changing the minds of some, others are afraid to stray from the roads laid by ignorant men many centuries past. So the pain and distress look set to continue; and not just for the animals.

This quote reminds me of the silly line in the Canadian national anthem beseeching God to keep our land glorious and free. When singing the anthem I always loudly replace the deity reference with "WE keep our land glorious and free."
