This is a dead-on analysis of exactly what's wrong with social media today. When you let the "hucksters" run rampant, you get nothing but MLM and ponzi schemes, and they wonder why they're not getting results? Morons. There ought to be some sort of way to smite the "gurus" and "experts" and get rid of the crap content beyond moving to a remote and fresh social media platform.

I think social media had already been killed before I got there. Naomi explains the situation well.

It takes them a while, but then they catch onto you. From the page: "Now the system is screwing us. Is social media marketing dead? Of course not. Will it ever be the same again? Ditto."

From the page: "Should I write pieces made for the front page?¯ Should I spend more time on StumbleUpon? Can Twitter seriously do my blog any good? That about Reddit? Del.icio.us? And what the hell is Sphinn?"

Reminds me of spending too much time going through the yummy end of a potluck, while forgetting to talk to friends. From the page: "Digg made headlines in January when they changed their algorithm, insisting on a diversity requirement for submissions to succeed. Why did they do that? Because we tried to screw the system. We said, 'Hey! If I get 200 people to Digg all my stuff, I'll be on the front page every day. I'll be the Social Media King of the World!' Uh, did we seriously think they wouldn't catch on? We watered down the hooch."

Super-thoughtful post on the law of diminishing returns. We wreck what we overuse. Is social bookmarking dead?
