Good practical guide to my home away from home -- the greatest city in the world by far in my view (and I am a New Yorker for the past 20 years, but New York is not even close in terms of quality of life and sophistication), where I have spent the six of the best years of my life wandering, living, studying, and... But why people go the Eiffel tower is beyond me--it is a both grotesque and uninteresting. You have to be very careful to get a good meal in a city which often offers very mediocre fare to tourists. Best to go one of the great markets, buy some great bread, cheese, wine, sausage, pastry, and other food with real taste and cook/feast for yourself if possible--then hang out at an interesting cafe all night and people-watch or be part of the stage yourself...
