This is even more extreme than the usual one... I mean, 12 billion dollars on a pen? Whoever does these should stop trying the internets.

This really annoys me. Its a big lie, neither used a pencil cos the graphite would sheer off and get into the circuits causing short circuits. Its been going on forever this fib and its time to knock it on the head.

Time to knock this one on the head, I think. The problem wasn't just getting a pen to work in space. When a pencil lead breaks in zero gravity, it splinters and flies all over the spacecraft, getting lodged in all the delicate, expensive equipment. An inventor (called Fisher) spotted the problem, created the space pen (with $1,000,000 of his own money) and then sold them to both NASA and the Russian space agency. Myth Busted!
