OK, three categories for these tips: Good Tips1. Change your router's default password 6. Enable encryption on your router WEP is useless... WPA is somewhat useful. Iffy tips2. Disable your router's remote administration option If you never use it, good idea. If you do use it (it can come in very handy), you're smart enough to handle your own security. 3. Disable wireless option if you don't use itNext to useless: why the hell did you buy a wireless router if you're not using wireless? Yeah, if you don't use it, disable it... but seriously?4. Change your network's nameNext to useless. NetStumbler and any host of other tools will tell any hacker EXACTLY what make and model router you're using.Tips that prove he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about5. Stop broadcasting the SSID Not only useless, but worse than useless. NetStumber, etc. will find any non-broadcast SSID. It makes everything more inconvenient for you, and does nothing to stop squatters.7. Limit the number of IP addressesWhat the hell? That is 100% ridiculous. Free tools overcome that easily because of two words: Static IP.8. Enable MAC address filteringWhat the hell? That is 100% ridiculous. Free tools overcome that easily because of two words: MAC spoofing.

When all else fails, rip out your Ethernet cable and turn off the power to your house, and do not turn your computer back on unless wearing a hazmat suit. Make sure your monitor is facing the wall and that it can't see you or your children. Stop living in fear, because the people who create it are having a good time :)

    Guide to secure wireless network

The only thing that will secure a wireless network is by using WPA and changing the router's default password. Everything else can be gotten around, and even some will break your network under some circumstances!

An excellent start. It would be helpful to see some examples of screens and input fields, because sometimes the process can be confusing. Thanks.

Wirless network router security basics. Certainly not foolproof, but a decent start.

From the page: "Disable wireless option if you don't use it" What about buying a regular router? And rule #0 is "connect it to your box, not the LAN before you turn it on".

Uh, what about people who choose to leave them unlocked?
