- The last post I stumbled used creme fraiche, made with a bought culture, to make butter, but here it is mentioned that you can make creme fraiche easily at home with buttermilk. Buttermilk, in turn, can be easily bought in big supermarkets (in Britain anyway), and this buttermilk can be added to normal milk at home to make further batches which will be much better than buttermilk from the shop, if you make using good quality milk.

- In case you see it in all your recipes and want to make it. Can be substituted with sour cream.
