Spellcheckers don't underline alright, therefore alright is a word. QED. Lots of writing teachers (mainly old cranky assholes) will dock points for it but they're wrong to do so and they'll all be dead or retired soon enough. The rest of this list is a pretty good guide for how to avoid about 70% of the mistakes made in written assignments for high school and college.

If you use "alright," go to the chalkboard and write "Alright is not a word" 100 times. This one stumped me. however many people have used it and now it has become an English word. So throw all right under the bus.
