Over the last several years working in IT for various companies as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, and Help Desk professional, Ive written and learned about many ways to increase the performance of not only my PC, but also of the many PCs on my networks ranging from Windows 98 to Windows Vista. In this article, I hope to compile a complete list of all the different methods and tricks that Ive used to get the last bit of juice out of a slow PC. Whether you are using an old PC or the latest and greatest in hardware, you can still use some of these to make your PC run faster. Note that since I write two blogs, Help Desk Geek and Online Tech Tips, I have previously written about many performance tips already which I will link back to throughout. If I have not written about it, Ive throw in a link to a relevant article from some of my other favorite sites. This list is in no particular order, just written in the order that I could think of them.

Oh, so much to warn you about. Okay, several years of working in IT cannot possibly compare to the experience I've had with computers, where I was actually actively trying to learn something rather than figure out the answers to mainly very similar issues. I could spend the next 3718 characters telling you the pitfalls of using many of these, but that would be a waste of time. Actually, I already tried, and it couldn't fit. I've been working with computers since I was 6 (I am now 21). If this guy is any older than me, it still wouldn't help much, since I've been basically working with Windows since Windows has existed. Here's MY advice. Don't take everything this guy says at face value, mainly because all he's been doing for the past several years is solving the same set of problems... over and over and over. Had this person been a bit more educated, he would've told you the drawbacks of many of these, as well. I'm going to make a post on my blog concerning this article. Granted, it will be a VERY long one, but it'll be worth your time to read as a stumbler. It'll basically tell you number by number which ones apply to XP, Vista or both, which ones to be careful of, how to go about doing it, etc. Better yet, I think what I'll do is create a downloadable file (since this is clearly going to be a bit big for a simple blog post) in simple .txt format, since it would take up the minimal amount of space, and you're reading this so you can optimize. When I'm done with it, I will most certainly post the upload link here. When I see such a great injustice such as this, I feel a need to clarify what the person didn't that I can.
