Apparently Chakkar doesn't read. They're biodegradable. If you look at the website it goes into more detail. And yes, it is degrading to the human spirit, but then so is poverty. And until governments actually DO something about it, this is an infinitely better solution than letting people drink contaminated water, don'tcha think? Finally, I'd like leave with one, small word: condoms. Condoms, condoms, and more condoms. Overpopulation and AIDS are the banes of Africa, and NOTHING is going to help until these religious fanatics release their ban on birth control.

What a dehumanizing and culturally insensitive idea this is - come on people, use your heads. We have the technology, the resources, and the ability to build the infrastructure necessary to effectively and efficiently deal with issues of sanitation and human waste (and have had it for thousands of years, constantly refining it), and yet somehow this seems like a viable solution to us for people in the developing world?"Here is a box of bags for you to crap and pee in. Enjoy that while I return to my country, where we have flushing toilets and a sanitation system that effectively and efficiently does this without the degradation of having to squat over a bag hoping not to piss or crap on myself or the floor beneath me."Viewed with the right lens, one quickly realizes this product is pure ethnocentric bullshit made by people that have not considered something as simple as the concept of human dignity, empathy, and respect. Honestly, this sounds like something more connected with Abu Ghraib than it does to solutions to environmental concerns that we have had the technology to deal with for thousands of years.clytie: Why is it that we have to wait until governments address these issues - are we so helpless that we can't take the time, energy, and work upon our own shoulders to spend time in a country that needs help to address these issues personally, in more humanizing and empathetic ways than what is suggested here? So long as you wait for the government to do something rather than forcing them to do it, or better yet, doing what you know should be done yourself instead of excusing your own inaction on the inaction of others or other organizations, than you have little room to say anything at all. I am not questioning you or your resolve, clytie, but asking you to consider the implications of statements like that... are we all really John Mayer, waiting for the world to change? I say that we should we seize the day and make change ourselves; only then can we make the changes we want to see in the world.Carpe Diem

Around the world, one child dies every 15 seconds from to contaminated water. For them the saying "Don't piss where you drink" isn't a clever metaphor, it's a real life challenge.
