A couple of individuals send a balloon with a camera attached to it to the edge of the earth's atmosphere. Some nice pics!

Home pix from the edge of space! This was the last picture before the balloon popped and the payload (including camera) parachuted safely to Earth. What a feeling they must have had when they first looked at the pictures. From the page:
"Behold the view from 117,597 feet, taken on August 11, 2007 by a camera hanging from a helium balloon launched by a group of guys in Alberta, Canada. Called the SABLE-3 (Southern Alberta Balloon Launch Experiment #3), the balloon's small payload box was packed with a Byonics MicroTrak 300 APRS tracking device, a Nikon Coolpix P2 digital camera set to snap one picture per minute, and filled with enough helium to take it to the edge of the earth's atmosphere."

You know, as a kid, this is the sort of thing I always wanted to do... only instead of sending up a camera that takes one picture per minute I wanted to go up with the balloon and see it myself.

This is the next best thing though...Who would have thought a big ole helium balloon would go up 22 miles high before popping?

Reminds me of a dream I had about taking pictures off of an over-sized kite.
