A One-Way, One-Person Mission to Mars: Who Wants In?

I wouldn't advocate this because I think the robotics program is making great strides and it makes more sense to have them be our harbingers, but it's definitely an interesting question to think about. One way, one person mission to Mars.

Taking part to a mission to Mars: $1 billion. Planning it as a one-way mission: 50% discount. Being the first human to live and die on Mars: priceless.

But how would you go about dying?

So, what do you say, wannabe space travelers? Would you ride in a tiny spaceship to Mars by yourself to be known as the first human to go to Mars and the die there? Sounds melodramatic, but no, thank you very much!

Would you go on a mission to mars? What about if it was a one-way mission? And you were by yourself? Yeah, that changes things a bit. Well, that's exactly what former NASA engineer Jim McClane suggests, saying that it's worth considering and removes many of the hurdles keeping us from the red planet now.
