Because of higher grocery bills, people are resorting to such ghastly tasks as cooking at home, growing some of their own food, and using leftovers! Oh, the humanity. Economic times are just so hard that people have to do things that any prudent person would be doing anyway.

- How do you save money when billions of tax dollars are paid to US farmers to not plant crops? Sounds like we are getting slammed twice.
Its like that Simpson's Episode where the hippies where complaining about their sons bad behavior by saying "we've tried nothing, and nothing works". We refuse to use our farming resources fully and pay farmers to not grow. We refuse to drill for oil in Alaska, Florida, and California and complain about oil companies and OPEC capitalizing on the limited supply of oil.
I think the whole country has turned to shit since the Democrats won the House and Senate! They claimed to have a "fix" for the energy crisis, but all they do is bring the big oil CEO's to a conference room and belittle them...and nothing changes. Now we have three do-nothing senators running for President, all wanting more government control of the economy...and people think things are going to change for the better?
I find it amazing how happy some treehuggers are that there is a shortage of food...we in America may have to pay a couple more dollars for what we want and some people may elect to plant a garden to save a few bucks...But third world countries do not have that luxury...High prices mean starvation and death. - How do you save money when billions of tax dollars are paid to US farmers to not plant crops? Sounds like we are getting slammed twice.

Faz465 rated 3 months ago- why is the writer acting so superior? he points out himself that the story says exactly what he's saying

whistler rated 3 months ago- however, with the assumption people actually won't eat less- 1) high prices=search for cheaper food 2) cheap food=poor nutrition 3)poor nutrition=rotund fellow americans

- yeah, maybe some people are retarded and need to change their ways, but there are those who already struggle and take every step possible to stretch their money- $5.00/gallon gas and higher grocery costs are just going to see more homelessness, joblessness, and increased hunger. It's not exactly a thing to get excited about. The guy wishing for raising gas prices so people have to ride bikes is absolutely clueless. Most of America is not structured so that people can get rid of their cars. Blame whomever you want, but the problem is already there and people are just not able to get themselves out of that situation, especially after they won't even be able to afford to drive themselves to work.

scttwms rated 3 months ago- No doubt, a recession would be good for many of us. But many would be hurt who don't deserve it.
