- Nothing weird here. Japan has an excellent attitude towards sex (though the no pubic hair in adverts rule is fucking nuts), we here in the West are the ones with the phallacy of shame...HA!

- This year's Japanese Phallic Festival (yes, yes, you read it correctly :) ) took place in Kawasaki, south of Tokyo and it gathered more than 30,000 worshipers who praised the sexuality gods and asked for protection from sexually transmitted diseases. Hmm...what a weird festival, isn't it?

- Not that weird. Many countries have festivals for fertility. Western countries do too in different ways.

- This particular festival originated as the local prostitutes going to the temple to pray for a year free of disease and pregnancy. There are more austere fertility festivals in the country (yes, they have penis Mukoshi), but this is the one that attracts the gaigin. I lived in Japan for 5 years and went to this get together a few times. It's a lot of fun. It's always great informing the guy that you're with that the girls all dressed up aren't always girls.
