I guess few years ago I'd thumb up this page, but now I've got mixed feelings. I too am atheist. Yet I realise socialism is a mistake. Poland was a socialist country for 45 years. That didn't bring us anything good. In capitalism you can be either rich or poor. In socialism you can only be poor. That's, unfortunately for you, a fact.

The root problem of Communism is that the powerful few use their power to dominate and control the weak. Resources are never distributed evenly under Communism for the 'State' takes an enormous share, which is of course controlled by the minority in power. The powerful maintain their control by the military paid for by the resources of the State which are taken from the masses. Oops! Isn't this exactly what you accuse America of doing? America is not perfect, but it sounds like you have gotten what you paid for with your thinking.

A "freethinker" who apparently learned everything through his dad. He is an enemy of individualism, and wouldn't know the difference between metaphysics and his rear.

You and I are not on the same page-but I can, without reservation say that the USA has a few problems- sure but it is still the best place to live.If not why do we have so many taxi drivers from India in New York City? Perhaps you need to stay right where you're at and straighten out your own country before you start knocking the USA.

Shameless leeched from freethinker. Thanks buddy. I don't agree with every one of your convictions, but you're sure a nice guy. I am sorry you have to put up with the religious/conservative rants. On the other hand, I think science without a philosophical ethical base tuned on with freedom, human rights, respect for life and for each one's individuality leads us to former (and current) USSR and China. That's bad. Like you I am socialist, but not THAT kind of socialist.

Interesting that he thinks that communism and freedom don't clash. Maybe these words mean something different to him... I am not sure. I do know this, I cannot approve of someone who hates everything I am. How is it that the evils of communism that caused the world to reject it have been so completely forgotten? How long did it take? Stalin killed more people than Hitler, and he sounded just like this. Communism does not work, it only leads to totalitarianism
