From the page: "History, they say, does not repeat â€" but it does echo. Looking back at other situations, other republics and empires, one is tempted to draw parallels between then and now."

Yes, sometimes it is necessary to state the obvious, and yet still, what have we learned from it? Thx rose!

I was skeptical about another one of these history parallels with the USA, not because they off the mark, just that it seemed unlikely that this one would have much to add. In fact, it is well thought and researched. From the page: "History, they say, does not repeat â€" but it does echo. Looking back at other situations, other republics and empires, one is tempted to draw parallels between then and now."

Here's a good read and something to ponder. America's path in relation to the past. As the author says, "history does not repeat, but it does echo."

From the page: "History, they say, does not repeat - but it does echo. Looking back at other situations, other republics and empires, one is tempted to draw parallels between then and now. The parallel drawn most often is the decline of the British Empire." ... The Roman parallel seems most poignant to me and truly, I'm not ready to see the American `empire` end ...
