As a Canadian who has travelled a lot in the USA, I can relate to this. In my travels I regularly go for evening walks to check out whatever neighbourhood I happen to be in. I have noticed that very few Americans do this sort of thing. In fact, most places in the US are not even designed for pedestrians. There are very few sidewalks and everything seems to be oriented towards cars. I have also noticed that in the US there is a lot of garbage littered along the roadside.
