I just love this blog. In this entry she points out some of the crazy things that farmers are doing to cope with the high price of feed, as well as the strange things that differentiate one factory chicken from another.
Once again, there is only one solution -- grow your own. I highly recommend the Sussex breed for a nice mix of egg and meat production as well as a gentle nature and general sturdiness. For straight up egg prodution, you can't beat the Australorp.
